JAWS Prehensors
Overview
JAWS come in two models. The original size and a medium version for individuals with smaller stature or who might just prefer a lighter, more compact terminal device. JAWS are the answer for many of the challenges that a person with a hand absence face. JAWS are unique and powerfully functional. JAWS are heavy duty, voluntary opening, prehensile-style, terminal devices. JAWS can be used with or without a cable harness system for versatility. JAWS can be mounted to a “myo” or electric arm with a special myo to body powered adapter. JAWS were conceived by amputee Bob Radocy, VP of Fillauer TRS Inc. Bob kept receiving inquiries from persons missing a hand, especially those using “myo” or electric hands frustrated with the electric technology’s performance but not wanting to go full voluntary closing, body power with a harness system. These individuals wanted to hold tools, handles, ride ATVs and snowmobiles, as well as other “off road” and “on water” vehicles like jet skis. Additionally, there was a need to safely control and steer drivable farm and ranch equipment. JAWS were conceptualized with these needs “in mind” and over a period of two years was designed and developed. The uses for these JAWS devices are endless.
JAWS uses “Vector” mechanics and technology. Vector technology was championed by Dr. Lawrence Carlson beginning in the 1990s into the 2000s. Dr. Carlson is a professor emeritus of mechanical engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Vector technology allows the grip force of the prosthesis to be easily adjusted in force by changing the direction through which the spring force acts. This adjustability provides significant versatility, as well as the ability to achieve much higher gripping forces than are available in most voluntary opening terminal devices. Bob, who has worked closely with Dr. Carlson on the vector technology, took the concept and embedded it into JAWS. Combining the vector technology into heavy duty gripping terminal devices proved to be the perfect “match” of concepts. Now is your chance to EXPERIENCE JAWS TECHNOLOGY!
*JAWS XFS – JAWS (Original size) is now also available with a heavy-duty spring option, JAWS XFS (Xtra Force Spring). The JAWS XFS comes with a Main Spring which has nearly 40% more force than the stock spring.
*Note: JAWS XFS is only intended for users who need extremely strong gripping forces. JAWS XFS should be used with extra caution, especially in the highest force position, because “releasing the grip” has an extremely high threshold. Additionally, if operating the JAWS XFS with a traditional cable system it may cause premature wear and possible failure of the cable system due to the extra force required to operate the TD. Standard JAWS TDs can be retro-fitted with the XFS Spring option. Please contact us for details.

Client Testimonials
Greetings and from Nova Scotia, Canada. I’ve used a prosthetic for the last ten years, after losing my right arm in a workplace accident. I got back into biking a few years ago, and was using a basic attachment with a sort of ratchet strap to hook onto the handlebar. My prosthetist got me one of your mountain master hands, and what a difference!! It’s so much easier to turn and to control the bike. It’s nice to have the confidence to actually go on more off road and rough trails, it handles so well! Just wanted to reach out to say thanks so much, the work you do is literally life changing! I’ll be on the bike all summer, so hopefully be able to send more pics or a video of it in action.
I just wanted to thank you all for helping me get set up with the wrist and the Multi-D. I'm working on my private pilot's certificate and the combination works perfectly! The wrist disconnects quickly when the instructor wants to take control to demonstrate and snaps back on easily when I'm back in command. The Multi-D holds on tightly and rotates just right for full yoke movement.
My name is Luisa Rocha and i am a product and industrial designer that is interested in designing prosthetics for leg amputees, i just came across your work in TRS and i have to say that i am thrilled to see such a big variety of designs that i didn’t know could be done in a really easy and simple design, my favourites are the kahuna, hélix and mill’s rebound, and i really hope i can help as much people as you have. As i said i am interested in designing and maybe producing a new design for leg amputees, to be specific, skaters; right now i have this crazy idea in my head that i don’t even know if it is possible to make or even if it could actually help, but even so, i am trying. Sorry if this e-mail doesn’t say anything specific, i just wanted to let you know that you inspired me and that seeing your work has encouraged me to try to make my design a reality, if i ever succeed, i Will let you know. Thank you!
Hi Bob, I just wanted to send you a note to say thank you for all that you and your team do. My daughter Grace has used your Pediatric Pro Cuff and Criterium Wedge to ride her dirtbike for a little over a year. Her passion for riding easily exceeds that of her brother and sister. We have to force her to take breaks to rest otherwise she will keep riding until the bike runs out of gas. I'm so thankful we have been able to find your products through Blue Sky USA Prosthetics here in Austin, TX. Attached are a couple of pics of her riding and jumping. Thank you again for everything you do!
Hey Bob, Just wanted to thank you for making the guitar prosthetic for people like me. It has given me back a piece of my life that I thought I had lost. Thanks and keep up the good work!
I’m really looking forward to more riding with the Pivot, already in the first 2 minutes I was impressed. I have never experienced such freedom of motion, anatomical balance and security on the handlebars as I did with the Pivot. Great product!
I wanted to give some feedback on my latest ride with the MTN master. I rode downhill at Winter Park. Overall, it was so awesome to be able to do this and I never would have imagined doing this before. I will definitely be doing some more downhill in the future.
I have recently added a TRS prehensor and TRS kayak attachment to my rotation of prosthetics, with a TRS golf attachment on the way. Thank you so much for the attachments you've created/made. I truly believe I can get back my quality of life since I found you on the web. Keep up the great work while I adapt my life with your products.
Thank you very much for the Hoopster hand. It is by far my favorite hand yet. My shot is 3x's better now! Thank you so much for providing great products and bettering amputee's quality of life!
Thank you so much for the prosthetic attachments! They help me so much!
Thanks for such an unbelievable product! Using your Grip 3 Hand and Harness, I was able to write my name again. I can't begin to tell you how excited I am.
Thanks so much for allowing me to borrow some items to show my students who are majoring in Outdoor Education. They very much appreciated being able to see, touch and examine these items and how they make these activities possible.
Thanks again. I couldn't enjoy riding my motorcycle so much without your Grip!
I would like to thank Bob Radocy for his generosity on donating the TRS terminal device, this was provided to beneficiary Maria Rodas completely at no charge to her.
